A MAJOR investigation is under way after a man was found dead at a Glasgow recycling centre.

Easter Queenslie Recycling Centre opened yesterday at 8am, but within just 40 minutes, a body was found within the premises.

Detectives then immediately shut the waste management facility while forensic officers probed the area.

Police have now confirmed the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A post- mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death.

The council owned property in the East End was locked down with “Police Slow” signs visible at the entrance.

Meanwhile, cops were seen patrolling the recycling centre with multiple squad cars and vans parked inside.

Local authority workers who operate the site were sent home while police took control of the crime scene.

A City Property van with a council official inside could also be seen at the site.

The Glasgow Times reported to the scene and spoke to workers and members of the public who reacted to the discovery.

One person said: “A body has been found so all the workers have been sent home for the day, I can’t believe it, you don’t expect this to happen.”

A second person added: “I came to use the dump but the police turned me away and said there was no access, I heard someone has died. It is devastating.”

A third commented: “A man has lost his life, I don’t know how or what happened but I am really thinking about his family. How can this have happened?”

A fourth said: “A body has been found at the recycling centre so the full area has been shut down while investigations go on, unbelievable.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.40am on April 10, we were made aware that the body of a man had been discovered at a recycling centre on Easter Queenslie Road, Glasgow.

“A post- mortem examination will be carried out in due course to establish the exact cause of death which police are not treating as suspicious.

“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The public first became aware of the incident when Glasgow City Council tweeted the centre would be closed.

It is now working with the police as investigations continue.

The council then announced yesterday evening that the centre would be open as normal this morning.
