A SEX attacker who subjected a woman to repeated acts of rape was jailed for five years yesterday as he continued to maintain his innocence.

Eyad Nasrullah assaulted his victim at a flat in Maryhill and restrained her as he perpetrated the abusive ordeal.

A judge at the High Court in

Edinburgh told the 27- year- old that he was convicted of “a very serious offence”.

Lord Weir said: “You maintain your denial of responsibility for this offence. You will, however, appreciate that I must proceed to sentence on the basis of the jury’s verdict.”

The judge said a sentence of imprisonment was “a necessary consequence” of the verdict and he had to take account of the sentencing requirements for punishment and deterrence.

Lord Weir said: “The evidence which a jury must have accepted was that you perpetrated three penetrative acts against her.”

The judge said he read references submitted on behalf of Nasrullah to the court from family, friends and employers and added: “It is apparent that you are well regarded within your local community.”

Nasrullah, of Glenavon Road, Glasgow, had denied raping the woman on August 20, 2019, at an address in the city but was found guilty after an earlier trial at the High Court in Paisley.

Nasrullah, who followed proceedings with the aid of an Arabic interpreter, was told he would be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely following the sentencing.
