IT’S a nostalgia-fest this week as tickets go on sale to greatest hits tours from the likes of The Streets, Enrique Iglesias and Cast. There’s plenty of new music to look forward to as well, with acts including Honne and Against the Current plugging upcoming releases with gigs in Manchester.
Get your wallets out and your browsers primed for this lot. Against The Current September 23, O2 Ritz FRESH from supporting Fall Out Boy on their latest UK tour, Against the Current are returning to play some headline shows of their own.
Formed in 2011 by Chrissy Costanza, Dan Gow and Will Ferri, the Poughkeepsie poprockers gained a huge YouTube following with their covers of hits by artists including Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift and Paramore. After two self-released EPs, their debut full length album In Our Bones in 2016 propelled them to even greater attention and paved the way for their first world tour. The band’s second album is on the way soon – influenced, Chrissy says, by Manchester’s own Oasis and ‘that really organic rock band sound’. The Streets January 25 and 26, 2019, O2 Ritz THE Streets have announced more live dates for 2019 following their sold-out reunion tour earlier this year.
Mike Skinner and co will perform two dates at Manchester’s O2 Apollo as part of their The Darker The Shadow The Brighter The Light: Part Two tour. Their recent gigs saw them play their greatest hits including When You Wasn’t Famous, Fit But You Know It and Dry Your Eyes, from their five studio albums.
This time around they’re expected to showcase new material after releasing their first tracks in six years including If You Ever Need to Talk I’m Here. Enrique Iglesias October 26, Manchester Arena SPANISH sensation Enrique Iglesias (below) is returning for his first UK tour in four years to perform his greatest hits.
The Latin pop king has released 10 studio albums to date, spawning hits including Hero, Addicted and Bailamos and racking up album sales of more than 150 million worldwide. Honne November 23, Manchester Academy 2 WITH a name that translates to ‘true feelings’ in Japanese, East London electronic duo Honne wear their hearts on their sleeves with their sentimental, synth-heavy soul.
A new album is on the way this August, the follow-up to 2016 debut Warm On A Cold Night, and the pair will be playing a string of shows in support of it including a date at Manchester’s Academy 2. Propelled from Manchester’s DIY scene into the national spotlight, via a major deal with Island Records and a flurry of hype, the band have gone on to support the Kaiser Chiefs on a massive UK arena tour as well as opening for Kasabian. Now they’re heading out to play some of their biggest headline shows including a date at Manchester’s O2 Ritz. Cast December 13, O2 Ritz BRITPOP legends Cast – formed from the ashes of The La’s and Shack – will be performing their era-defining biggest hits on a UK tour this winter. The shows, including a date at Manchester’s O2 Ritz, come in support of their new compilation vinyl album Singles 1995-2017.
After splitting in 2001, the original line-up reunited in 2012 to produce their first new album in over a decade, Troubled Times, followed by last year’s Kicking Up the Dust. Their latest release pulls together 15 of the band’s best-loved singles from across all six albums, including top 20 singles Finetime, Alright, Sandstorm, Walkaway, Flying, Free Me, Guiding Star, Live The Dream, I’m So Lonely, and Beat Mama. Fans are eagerly awaiting new music after their self-titled third album in 2015, and the follow-up is expected to be released later this year.
