Family’s bid to send Chloe to Disney World
THE family of a brave schoolgirl who suffers from serious health problems are fundraising so she can enjoy her dream holiday to Disney World.
Chloe Rowland was born with a number of complex medical conditions which means she often has to use a wheelchair.
Because of a restrictive lung condition, the Disney-mad youngster has never been abroad and her parents are desperate for her to have a holiday of her dreams. Chloe, 11, from Audenshaw, requires oxygen at night and attends regular appointments at Great Ormond Street, Alder Hey and Manchester Children’s Hospitals.
To get some muchneeded respite, Chloe’s parents Sarah and Colin applied for a place on Caudwell Children’s annual Destination Dreams holiday to Disney World, in Florida.
The charity, which provides practical and emotional support to disabled children and their families, gives 25 children a year the chance to go on a special trip.Sarah, 33, says she was delighted when Chloe and the family were offered a place - but the race is now on to raise the necessary funds to cover the cost of the holiday.
“The families are really well looked after as the charity provide a dedicated team of paediatric doctors and nurses who are available 24/7,” she said.
“This is really important for us as we have never been on a plane together or even out of the country as a family.
“We’ve been told by doctors that Chloe can’t go on a flight without medical help, because on a plane the cabin pressure is greater and oxygen is thinner.
“So the fact Caudwell Children provide a full medical team is perfect for us.
“The fact there will be a team of paediatric doctors and nurses on the flight gives us real confidence.”
Around 40 volunteers will also join the trip to assist families around the theme parks.
Because of the cost of taking very poorly children overseas, the charity has to pay an average of £12,000 per family. As a result, families due to enjoy the holiday are aiming to raise cash for the charity to make sure they can all get on the plane to Florida in December.
Chloe’s dad, 36, said: “To see Chloe enjoying herself with her threeyear-old brother, William, would be magical.
“I just hope the public support our campaign.”
