Show of strength is barrel of laughs

INVESTIGAT­IONS continue into a crash between a car and a pickup truck that left a woman and an eight-year-old girl seriously injured.

The A46 in Northway, near Tewkesbury, re-opened late Monday evening after the collision at around 3.35pm.

A Nissan Note and Mitsubishi pick-up truck collided headon and a Ford Fusion was also struck in the incident .

Police said the driver of the Nissan Note, a Tewkesbury woman, was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

While an eight-year-old girl who was a passenger in the same car was taken to Gloucester­shire Royal Hospital in Gloucester but was due to be transferre­d to Bristol Children’s Hospital.

Both were in a serious but stable condition on Tuesday night.

A six-year-old boy who was also a passenger in the Nissan was treated at GRH and has since been discharged. The other motorists involved in the collision suffered non-serious injuries. Two air ambulances were called to the scene and the road closure started at JD Auto Service, Aston Cross, and stretched past Ashchurch Primary School to the M5 junction.

The road re-opened at around 9.30pm. An ambulance service spokesman said on Monday afternoon: “Paramedics were called at just after 3.35pm to attend the accident on Ashchurch Road, Tewkesbury.

“One female patient is being flown by air ambulance to Southmead Hospital, Bristol, with leg injuries, and three other patients are being taken by land ambulance to Gloucester­shire Royal Hospital emergency department for further treatment.”
