Gloucestershire Echo - - WHERE I LIVE -

Our September meeting was a demonstration and talk by Susanne Trenchard from the Little Dazzle Soap Company. Susanne started the company five years ago after spending some time as a beauty therapist.

It started as a hobby but now she makes and sells rather special soap to friends and contacts.

We were shown how to make the soap from a plain white soap base and how to add colours and fragrances to make some very interesting shapes and items. A plastic champagne glass containing pina colada was just once example of what we could all achieve. Another was a slice of lemon meringue pie soap, so realistic that you would have to be very careful where you displayed it.

Susanne was very keen to show us all how to make the soaps for ourselves and how to find good ingredients at a good price. One thing to remember is to keep a separate set of saucepans to make soap otherwise you could end up eating some unusually flavoured baked beans or potatoes. Most of us, though, were more than happy to just buy some very pretty samples of Susanne’s work.

Our October 24, meeting has a talk by Diane Humphreys and Fred Ward titled “The World of Puppets”. This will give you an idea of the variety and strangeness of puppets from many countries. Diana and Fred will be sharing their own handling collection with us. Visitors are more than welcome; we make a small charge of £3. The talk begins at 7.15 in Highbury Church, 3 Priory Walk.
