» FORMER Gloucester Academy player Mason Tonks has signed for Worcester.

The youngster has been playing regularly for Worcester Cavaliers in the Premiership Rugby Shield this season since being released by the Cherry and Whites and has now signed an Academy contract.

Tonks has also been dual-registered with Birmingham Moseley and he made his debut for the National One club in their defeat by Darlington Mowden Park on Saturday.

The winger, who grew up in Westbury-on-severn, has played internationally for England Sevens and also starred for Worcester in the Premiership Rugby 7’s in the summer.

Tonks never made a senior appearance for Gloucester but did play for them in the Premiership Rugby 7’s.

Warriors have also dual-registered Kai Owen - who made his debut against Darlington Mowden Park - and number eight Tom Dodd with Moseley, taking the number of players currently gaining senior experience outside of the Gallagher Premiership to seven, including prop Joe Morris and lock James Scott who have played Championship rugby for Hartpury.

Worcester Academy manager Chim Gale said: “Having guys playing in the Championship and National Leagues is of huge benefit to them.

“It gives them the opportunity to further their rugby education by playing senior rugby week in and week out and that is invaluable, particularly when we do not have a Premiership Shield match for two months.”
