County Cup cruise Jones and Mooney hit two apiece in win
SAM Jones and Kelsey Mooney scored two goals apiece as Cheltenham Town cruised through to the quarter-finals of the Gloucestershire Senior Challenge Cup with a 6-0 win against Mangotsfield United.
It was a chance for the fringe members of the squad to press their claims against the Evostik South Division One South side in front of manager Michael Duff, below, who was in the dugout throughout the game.
The Robins will now face Slimbridge in the quarter-finals of a competition they last won in 2007.
They dominated the opening 45 minutes and carried a three-goal advantage into the break.
Jones got the first with 14 minutes on the clock, smashing an unstoppable strike into the top right-hand corner from 20 yards. Liam Mcalinden added the second seven minutes before the interval, turning and beating Andrew Hannah, the Mangos number one, from an angle down the left.
Kevin Dawson had created it, and delivered the ball from the right to tee up Mooney for the third, who scored with another well taken effort.
The visitors made a positive start to the second half, forcing Rhys Lovett into a flying save to deny Adam Kelly from 20 yards.
Substitute Jake Thomas met the following corner with a firm header, but the Cheltenham number one tipped it over.
The Robins extended the lead on the hour through Jones, his second on the night.
Conor Thomas scored the fifth from the spot, beating Hannah to low to his right after Chris Clements had been tripped in the penalty area by Colin Mugoya-tabingwa.
Mooney registered his second of the evening to complete the rout, meeting a ball from the right and finishing neatly from 12 yards.
