Revamp on the cards as plans for cinema and bar are discussed
THE grand revamp to Regent Arcade, could be given the green-light this week.
A five-screen boutique cinema, rooftop bar, new restaurants and a refreshing new look for Regent Street could be on its way to the spa town if councillors approve the multi-million pound plans on Thursday, October 18.
The cinema is one of new uses intended for the huge vacant space in the Regent Arcade that was home to BH before its collapse in 2016.
The site is at one end of the arcade, between its Ormond Place entrance stretching down to the southern end of Regent Street.
The arcade has submitted detailed plans to redevelop the former BHS space into a 55,000 sqft mixed use development centred around the cinema and four restaurants.
If approved, the £3million scheme will open up the southern end of Regent Street to commercial activity, creating a new central cafe quarter.
Revised plans drawn up by Bell Associates Architects show sleek new frontage of the side entrance of the Regent Arcade and re-paving of the street.
A refurbished entrance to the Regent Arcade in being considered in the application with a new passenger lift.
Officers have not given a recommendation to councillors ahead of next week’s meeting.
Councillors on Cheltenham Borough Council’s planning committee on Thursday, October 18, from 6pm.
