Borough council are accountable for corner

Gloucestershire Echo - - LETTERS & OPINION -

✒ I READ the letter from Adrian Becker about Boots Corner (October 11) with interest - and I am happy to clarify matters from the county council’s perspective.

Cheltenham Borough Council approached Gloucestershire County Council, asking us to support their regeneration-led scheme to close Boots Corner as part of their wider town centre regeneration.

While it was not something that we would have pursued from a transport perspective, Cheltenham Borough Council told us it was crucial for regeneration in the town.

As such, we decided it wasn’t our place to block their scheme.

All this was stated very clearly at the time.

This is a regeneration scheme, being led by Cheltenham Borough Council, who are the accountable council. Councillor Nigel Moor Cabinet Member for Environment and Planning Gloucestershire County Council
