Charlton Kings Mens Probus club meets at 9.30am today in Sacred Hearts Church rooms. Today Dr Gillian White will give a fascinatin­g account of The Most Dissolute Man in London William Cavendish the 1st Duke of Devonshire famed for his military and political activities whilst enjoying a scandalous private life. An Advice Bites Cafe for people concerned about an elderly relative or friend who is experienci­ng some health problems of old age will be held tonight at Grevill House, London Road from 6 to 7.30pm. This cafe is an informal space where helpful and useful informatio­n can be gained in friendly setting with a cuppa and piece of cake. Regular expert speakers provide fantastic support and advice. Admiral nurses will be on hand tonight to discuss how they can provide specialist dementia support that patients and their families need giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions. The nurses will give informatio­n about the science behind dementia, how it is being tackled, the diagnosis process and the help available. Gloucester­shire Telecare is a free service, jointly funded by the NHS & Gloucester­shire County Council and provides support for people who have a diagnosis of Dementia, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s. They provide assistance with useful aids such as dementia clocks, automated medication dispensers, GPS devices and automated falls detectors to support that person in their own home or when out in the community.

The Friends of Midland Air Ambulance service are holding a Coffee Morning in Emmanuel Church rooms tomorrow from 10am to noon. Admission is £1 which includes coffee and there will be a bring and buy stall and a raffle.

There will be a Farmers’ Market outside Cavendish House tomorrow from 9am to 2pm selling a wide range of locally produced food.

Charlton Kings Film Society are showing Queen of Katwe at Sacred Hearts Church rooms at 7.45pm on Friday. This is a colourful story of a young girl living in poverty in Uganda’s Katwe slums. She is taught to play chess by a kind man and this skill changes her whole life. Doors open at 7pm and tickets cost £5

The local charity Linc is presenting an Opera Gala Evening on Saturday at the Pump Room. The evening will begin at 7.30pm and consist of a three course dinner and songs from the operas performed by Cheryl and friends. Meeting of the Full Parish Council will be held on Monday October 29th at 7pm in the Stanton Rooms. All members of the public are welcome.

Twin sisters Marianna and Stephanie Kapsetaki are the young pianists playing music by Rachmanino­v, Scriabin, Liszt, Grieg and Stravinsky at the Lunchtime concert in the Town Hall at 1.05pm on Tuesday, October 30. Light lunches are on sale from noon. Tickets cost £5.

If you enjoy singing then why not enjoy an opportunit­y to sing and perform choruses from Haydn’s Creation with Musica Vera on Saturday, November 17, at Holy Apostles Church, Charlton Kings led by the Choir’s Director of Music, David Dewar. With its focus on the Genesis story the Creation is justifiabl­y popular and is a firm favourite for choirs everywhere. Come and Sing events are friendly and welcoming.
