Course bests for Le Grice, Edwards
CORNWALL’S Peter Le Grice won the Gloucester 10K last weekend with a course record time.
The event incorporated the South West Inter-counties Championship and Le Grice, of Mounts Bay Harriers, Tom Merson from Exmouth Harriers and Shaun Antell of Bideford Athletic Club broke away from the field after the first kilometre.
By the 3K mark Le Grice opened a gap which increased over the next few kilometres as he dominated the race winning in a time of 29.44, a course record which ranks Le Grice 23rd in this years 10K British rankings, taking more than two minutes off his personal best.
In the wheelchair race there was 15 seconds between the first three finishers with Ed Grazier of Cheltenham Harriers being the winner in a time of 31.26.
In the women’s race, Sian Edwards of Swansea Harriers won in 34.52, breaking the course record by more than six minutes.
In the South West championship, Gloucestershire men’s team finished third, with Dominic James of Cheltenham Harriers followed by club mate Alex Lee, Will Ferguson of CLC Striders and Lee Stopford of Stroud and District AC.
The county’s women were fourth, led home by Helena Youde of Almost Athletes followed home by Robyn Jackson from Dursley Running Club, Sophie Chudley of Cirencester AC and Fee Maycock of Cheltenham Harriers.
The organisers would like to thanks the Royal British Legion Hardwicke Branch, Kingsway Runners Quedgeley, and a group from Tewkesbury organised by Neil Meynell as without the marshals and helpers from these organizations the event would not take place.
