Striker Lloyd praised after second goal of Hereford loan spell

-

STRIKER George Lloyd made it two goals in two games for loan side Hereford in Tuesday night’s 1-1 National League North draw with AFC Telford.

Lloyd, on loan from Cheltenham Town until January, also scored in the Bulls’ 3-1 loss at Boston on Saturday, and head coach Marc Richards says Lloyd has a bright career ahead of him

“I am really pleased for him, he’s such a great character for such a young kid,” former Robins youth teamer Richards told the Bulls News website.

“He’s got a hell of a career in front of him if he keeps doing what he’s been doing and being as lively as that, I’d love to see his GPS stats after tonight’s game, he’s got through some serious work.”

Lloyd told Bulls News: “It was nice to get another goal, the aim is to get a goal a game which would be nice for a striker.

“But it’s about the team, and if I don’t score and get an assist, or I don’t score but I’ve worked hard for the team then I’m happy.

“He took a touch in the box and I sort of closed him down, it kind of fell for me so I stretched for it and managed to get it through the keeper’s legs.

“Then we started to get going, before that we didn’t really get going so it was good.”

Lloyd was up against Telford centreback Theo Streete, but knew because of his size it wasn’t going to be easy, but he knew he needed to use his pace to cause Streete problems.

“He took a little knock, and Morf (Will Morford, coach) told me and I recognised it as well,” Lloyd added.

“So I said to the centre-mids if you haven’t got an out ball just stick it on him because it seemed to get the better of him.

“Players like that who are bigger than you, you’re physically not going to better them, so you’ve got to get around their feet and be a nuisance.

“Where they make up their size they’re a bit slower than you on their feet so you’ve got to do that.”

Another loanee, central defender Matt Bower, netted for Weston-supermare in their 2-2 National League South draw with former Robins boss Gary Johnson’s Torquay United.

The goal came from a free kick given away by ex-robin Liam Davis, which was crossed into the box, flicked on at the near post and volleyed in by Bower.

Tom Smith lined up for Bath as they drew 1-1 with Truro City in National League South on Tuesday while in the National League, Josh Debayo played in Dover’s 2-0 home defeat by Dagenham and Redbridge.

Striker Manny Duku lined up for Barnet, playing 59 minutes of their 3-1 loss to leaders Salford City after he had opened his Barnet goal account on Saturday in their 2-0 win at Barrow

Meanwhile, Aldershot Town have confirmed that ex-robins striker Dan Holman has left the club following the mutual termination of his contract.

Holman hit 16 goals in 18 games as Cheltenham won the National League title in 2015-16 but a foot injury ruined his chance of making an impact in the Football League and he played for Boreham Wood and Leyton Orient before joining Aldershot in August.

Shots boss Gary Waddock told the club’s website: “Dan leaves with our best wishes, unfortunately the travel was becoming too much for him and both parties agreed that this would be the best move.”

Holman made 13 appearances for the club this season, scoring once, in memorable fashion against Bromley at the EBB Stadium.
