Lisowski in a hurry as he breezes through opening UK clash

-

JACK Lisowski eased into the second round of the UK Championships in

York with a 6-1 win over Zhang Jiankang.

Lisowski was a man in a hurry as the Churchdown man won in only 89 minutes, knocking in breaks of 82, 120, 56, 53, 51 and 115.

The result boosts Lisowski’s position in the Race to the Masters and his hopes of making his debut at Alexandra Palace in January.

He remains in 16th place, now £11,100 ahead of 17th-placed Marco Fu.

“It’s a good start, the tables played well and it was easy to score,” said Lisowski.

“Everyone is talking about the Masters race but I’m just focused on this one because it’s a massive tournament.

“If I get into the Masters that will be a bonus but I’m just riding the wave at the moment.”

He now faces the winner of Thursday’s clash between fergal O’brien and Mi Xiwen in the last 64 at the weekend.

Gloucester’s Rob Milkins was also a convincing winner as he beat Sanderson Lam 6-1.

The 42-year-old plays Tom Ford or Craig Steadman after dropping the first frame against Lam then hitting back to win, with highest breaks of 82 and 74

Reanne Evans defeated Rebecca Kenna 4-0 to win the Eden Women’s Masters for a fifth time at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester last weekend.

Installed as top seed for the tournament, 11-time world champion Reanne Evans was looking to maintain her 100% record of final appearances at the Masters event and duly did so with victories against Louise Cothier, Chloe White and Emma Parker.

Joining the 33-year-old in the final was third ranked Rebecca Kenna, who recorded comfortable wins against Jackie Ellis and Stephanie Daughtery, before defeating Suzie Opacic 4-1 in a deceptively tight semi-final to reach her second ranking final of the season.

Having taken a 40-minute opening frame, Evans then survived a scare in the second after Kenna had gained a snooker on the blue to double her lead.

Although Kenna continued to battle to the end it was not to be her day as Evans added the following two frames to complete her fourth whitewash of the weekend and secure the title with a perfect 100 per cent record, replicating her achievement at the same tournament back in January 2017.

The triumph was Evans’ second title of the season following her success at the European Women’s Masters last month.

The world number two also claimed the high break prize with her final day run of 62.
