Basford joins City to get his first experience of senior football

YOUNG Cheltenham Town forward Aaron Basford has joined Worcester City on a work experience loan.

The former Gloucester Primary Schools player was on the bench for the Robins’ s 2-0 FA Cup first round replay win over Ebbsfleet United on Tuesday night.

He celebrated his 17th birthday on Wednesday and has scored eight goals for the Under-18s this term, including a brace in the FA Youth Cup first round win at Forest Green Rovers.

Basford, previously on the books of Abbeymead Rovers, West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City, also appeared for the Robins’ first team during pre-season.

Cheltenham recently also sent out Tom Handley and Archie Brennan to Hellenic League Premier Division Lydney Town for their first taste of senior first team football.

Worcester, whose assistant manager is ex-robin Ashley Vincent, play in the Midland Football League Premier Division.

They groundshar­e with Bromsgrove Sporting and played Westfields at home on Saturday - Basford stayed on the bench as they lost 6-1.
