Pining for something more eco-friendly? Just rent your tree

-

WHAT to do with the Christmas tree once the turkey is finished and the new year beckons is no longer a problem for some people.

Thousands of people in the county are now deciding to rent a living tree which comes in a pot to be planted back into the ground after the festivities are over.

And the company behind the idea, Cotswold Fir Forestry at Shurdington, says the demand is growing.

“We have rented out several thousand trees already this year,” says owner, Craig Tennock.

He puts the popularity of renting down to a combination of people becoming more eco-minded and the popularity of the Spruce tree.

Craig says customers often ask for the same tree year after year.

“People get quite attached to the same tree and take it back into their homes every Christmas,” he says.

The Christmas trees are rented in outlets between Cheltenham and Bristol and can also be collected from Winstones Ice Cream in Stroud.

“We have been renting out trees for six years now and have 16 million people following us on Facebook so we know there is a demand out there,” says Craig.
