PARTYGOERS SPEND £49 TO LOOK AND FEEL GOOD OVER CHRISTMAS

CHRISTMAS partygoers expect to spend £49, on average, to look and feel good when they go out during the festive season, a survey by deals website Groupon found.

New outfits, hairdresse­r visits, beauty treatments and extra trips to the gym make up the typical total spend. Nearly a quarter (22%) of people surveyed said they attend three to four parties in the run-up to Christmas.

UNIVERSITY STUDENTS RECEIVING WAVE OF FAKE TAX REBATE EMAILS

FRAUDSTERS are bombarding university students with large numbers of fake tax refund emails, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) is warning.

HMRC said it is the first time it has seen a tax scam attack directly targeting university students in such high volumes.

The tax authority has received thousands of fraud reports in just a few weeks from students at colleges across the UK.

Fake emails may promise people they are owed some money in an attempt to obtain their personal informatio­n.

ONE IN SIX OVER-65S HAVE NO ONE TO DISCUSS MONEY WITH

ONE in six (16%) over-65s have no one to talk to about money issues, Age UK has found.

People who were single – including those who have been widowed, separated or divorced – were more likely than those who were married or living with a partner to say they had no one to discuss money with.

FINANCIAL FACT: Motor insurance payouts have reached record levels this year, with more than £23million typically being paid every day, according to figures from the Associatio­n of British Insurers (ABI).
