PAR­TY­GO­ERS SPEND £49 TO LOOK AND FEEL GOOD OVER CHRIST­MAS

CHRIST­MAS par­ty­go­ers ex­pect to spend £49, on av­er­age, to look and feel good when they go out dur­ing the fes­tive sea­son, a sur­vey by deals web­site Groupon found.

New out­fits, hair­dresser vis­its, beauty treat­ments and ex­tra trips to the gym make up the typ­i­cal to­tal spend. Nearly a quar­ter (22%) of peo­ple sur­veyed said they at­tend three to four par­ties in the run-up to Christ­mas.

UNIVER­SITY STU­DENTS RE­CEIV­ING WAVE OF FAKE TAX RE­BATE EMAILS

FRAUD­STERS are bom­bard­ing univer­sity stu­dents with large num­bers of fake tax re­fund emails, HM Rev­enue and Cus­toms (HMRC) is warn­ing.

HMRC said it is the first time it has seen a tax scam at­tack di­rectly tar­get­ing univer­sity stu­dents in such high vol­umes.

The tax au­thor­ity has re­ceived thou­sands of fraud re­ports in just a few weeks from stu­dents at col­leges across the UK.

Fake emails may prom­ise peo­ple they are owed some money in an at­tempt to ob­tain their per­sonal in­for­ma­tion.

ONE IN SIX OVER-65S HAVE NO ONE TO DIS­CUSS MONEY WITH

ONE in six (16%) over-65s have no one to talk to about money is­sues, Age UK has found.

Peo­ple who were sin­gle – in­clud­ing those who have been wid­owed, sep­a­rated or di­vorced – were more likely than those who were mar­ried or liv­ing with a part­ner to say they had no one to dis­cuss money with.

FI­NAN­CIAL FACT: Mo­tor in­sur­ance pay­outs have reached record lev­els this year, with more than £23mil­lion typ­i­cally be­ing paid ev­ery day, ac­cord­ing to fig­ures from the As­so­ci­a­tion of Bri­tish In­sur­ers (ABI).
