Joan’s 64 years of ser­vice is hon­oured with life­time award

JOAN Grif­fiths of Pain­swick Ten­nis Club was hon­oured with the Life­time Achieve­ment Award at the Glouces­ter­shire LTA awards cer­e­mony.

The awards are a joint ini­tia­tive be­tween The Lawn Ten­nis As­so­ci­a­tion (LTA), the Ten­nis Foun­da­tion, part­ner and 40 County/ na­tional ten­nis as­so­ci­a­tions, in­clud­ing Glouces­ter­shire.

Joan was given the award after 64 years of ser­vice to the game and she has been re­spon­si­ble for pro­vid­ing many op­por­tu­ni­ties for play­ers at club level and pro­mot­ing the Glouces­ter­shire Ten­nis League, where she is still set­ting up new leagues for more vet­eran

Young Per­son of the Year: Luke Thomas of Lech­lade TC

Coach of the Year: Nick Ed­wards

Club of the Year: Red­mar­ley TC

Of­fi­cial of the Year: Si­mon Cor­bish­ley, GLTA and East Glouces­ter­shire Club

Com­pe­ti­tion of the Year: In­ter Club Over 60’s League

Boy Ju­nior Player Mary Eyre Award: James Find­lay, East Glouces­ter­shire Club

Girl Ju­nior Player Mary Eyre Award: Rachel James, Lyd­ney TC

Cathie Sabin OBE, Im­me­di­ate Past LTA Pres­i­dent, pre­sented the awards and Red­mar­ley Ten­nis Club and Winch­combe Com­mu­nity Venue are now in the run­ning to be awarded a na­tional award, which could see them col­lect a £5,000 fa­cil­ity grant.
