Norton’s fantastic feat gives the Red Ants something to shout about

-

HARTPURY had a much-improved performance in the Championship Cup against the Cornish Pirates.

The loss was cruel in the last few seconds of the game and this competition does not get any easier for Hartpury as they travel to London Irish this week.

This competition would not have been a priority but with two games left in the competition, momentum can be gained from another encouraging performance at Irish, so once the league campaign starts again, they are in the best shape they can be to move up the table.

Cinderford’s defeat at Rotherham will be frustrating and with Old Elthamians up next there will be no better time to return to winning ways.

The Forest side will be confident that they can beat anyone on their own pitch and stop this mini slump.

Matson’s promotion hopes were dented by a loss to promotion rivals Chew Valley at home.

Another top of the table team, Spartans, had a bump in the road with a big loss at Berry Hill.

There was something for the Red Ants to shout about, as Dan Norton, a Spartans product, hit 300 tries in the sevens world series.

To stay fit and healthy for nearly 10 years on the demanding sevens circuit is remarkable. Playing in glamorous locations sounds a great way to earn your living but to stay at the top of your game takes sacrifices and a lot of dedication.

When Dan hangs up his boots, he will go down as one of the greatest players to play the shorter format of the game and Spartans should be proud.
