PITTVILLE TOWNSWOMEN GUILD
» For our November meeting we had a return visit from Dr Frances Wilsoncopp who told us some more about the Great Masterpieces of the World.
Starting with The Creation of Adam by Michelangelo, Frances gave an insight into the meaning behind one of the most famous paintings in the world.
Due to the photos displayed on a screen we were able to see some of the wonderful drawing and artwork.
Michelangelo’s understanding of the human body was inspired by him having dissected many bodies.
The next painting was The Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch. I always thought that his paintings were “weird” but this one exceeded this.
Frances also talked to us about three other masterpieces but sadly we ran out of time. The talk was informative, entertaining and a little irreverent.
Our January 23. meeting has a talk by Bill Laws called Fifty plants that changed the course of history. Visitors are welcome; we make a small charge of £3. The talk begins at 7.15pm in Highbury Church, 3 Priory Walk.
