SPIRAX Sarco’s apprenticeship scheme is open for applications as the company looks for engineers of the future.
Spirax Sarco, based in Cheltenham, is a leading manufacturer of steam management systems and peristaltic pumps.
It is seeking candidates for advanced craft and advanced/higher technician apprenticeships.
The apprenticeships are a great way to gain experience in a practical and technical environment.
The scheme will develop the chosen applicants personally and professionally, offering the potential for future career opportunities within the business.
The apprenticeship scheme is approved by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology which will allow apprentices to apply for professional registration upon completion.

» What apprenticeships are available? Advanced Craft – This apprenticeship will allow you to gain practical experience of producing parts and products, using a variety of methods and equipment. Placements take place across the Cheltenham manufacturing site covering areas from basic tool making, to welding, to multi axis machining techniques, to inspection.
Advanced or Higher Technician – This apprenticeship includes theoretical and practical tasks covering all aspects of our business. Placements take place across the Cheltenham sites from machining to purchasing to product development then focused towards a specific role. » What will I do throughout my apprenticeship?
» Year 1 – Full time study at Gloucestershire Engineering Training (GET), Practical training (NVQ), Theoretical study
» Year 2 – Various work placements in relevant areas across Spirax Sarco; moving through the business typically on three month placements.
Workplace-based assessments towards the NVQ in engineering, Continued day release at GET to conduct theoretical study
» Year 3 onwards – Ongoing work placements across the business
Workplace-based assessments for the NVQ in engineering.
» Additional further study – Spirax Sarco funds degree-level learning, where business requirement and individual development needs support, with a number of employees sponsored on part time degrees.
» Minimum entry requirements – Five GCSES at grade C (or 4) or above including maths, English and science, interests outside of school which show a genuine interest in engineering, a recent job or relevant work experience would be beneficial.
