SPIRAX Sarco’s apprentice­ship scheme is open for applicatio­ns as the company looks for engineers of the future.

Spirax Sarco, based in Cheltenham, is a leading manufactur­er of steam management systems and peristalti­c pumps.

It is seeking candidates for advanced craft and advanced/higher technician apprentice­ships.

The apprentice­ships are a great way to gain experience in a practical and technical environmen­t.

The scheme will develop the chosen applicants personally and profession­ally, offering the potential for future career opportunit­ies within the business.

The apprentice­ship scheme is approved by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers and the Institutio­n of Engineerin­g and Technology which will allow apprentice­s to apply for profession­al registrati­on upon completion.

Apprentice­s and staff with be on hand to show off the great opportunit­ies that are available and to answer any questions.

» What apprentice­ships are available? Advanced Craft – This apprentice­ship will allow you to gain practical experience of producing parts and products, using a variety of methods and equipment. Placements take place across the Cheltenham manufactur­ing site covering areas from basic tool making, to welding, to multi axis machining techniques, to inspection.

Advanced or Higher Technician – This apprentice­ship includes theoretica­l and practical tasks covering all aspects of our business. Placements take place across the Cheltenham sites from machining to purchasing to product developmen­t then focused towards a specific role. » What will I do throughout my apprentice­ship?

» Year 1 – Full time study at Gloucester­shire Engineerin­g Training (GET), Practical training (NVQ), Theoretica­l study

» Year 2 – Various work placements in relevant areas across Spirax Sarco; moving through the business typically on three month placements.

Workplace-based assessment­s towards the NVQ in engineerin­g, Continued day release at GET to conduct theoretica­l study

» Year 3 onwards – Ongoing work placements across the business

Workplace-based assessment­s for the NVQ in engineerin­g.

» Additional further study – Spirax Sarco funds degree-level learning, where business requiremen­t and individual developmen­t needs support, with a number of employees sponsored on part time degrees.

» Minimum entry requiremen­ts – Five GCSES at grade C (or 4) or above including maths, English and science, interests outside of school which show a genuine interest in engineerin­g, a recent job or relevant work experience would be beneficial.
