VW boosts Tiguan kit and value

- By DAVID WHINYATES

REVISED trim levels and a powerful new petrol engine have been announced by Volkswagen for the Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace SUVS. Although prices are going up by £200 in all cases, the German maker claims that the new Match and R-line Tech trim levels will add up to almost £1,300 worth of additional kit over previous versions.

The new Match trim replaces the SE and SE Nav trims and adds a rear-view camera, park assist, keyless entry and 19in Victoria alloy wheels.

After the £200 price increase is factored in, VW reckons that this equates to £1,130 of added value over the previous SE Nav spec.

The Match line-up starts from £26,750, with Volkswagen’s 130 PS 1.5-litre TSI EVO petrol engine, two-wheel drive and a manual gearbox and is topped by a 190 PS two-litre TDI SCR diesel variant, with all-wheel drive and a DSG gearbox at £34,770.

The new R-line Tech trim replaces the previous R-line spec and includes a £1,485 package of additional options such as park assist and keyless entry.

After the £200 price hike, this adds an extra £1,285 of value, says VW, with prices now starting at £33,150 for the 150 PS 1.5-litre TSI EVO variant, with a DSG gearbox.

A new, more powerful, 2-litre, 230 PS engine is now available at the top of the R-line Tech petrol range – and also in SEL models – coupled with four-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG gearbox.

There’s a top speed of 142mph and acceleration from rest to 62mph in a sporty 6.3 seconds, while achieving 36.7mpg.

Fitted with the new engine, the R-line Tech is £38,335, with the SEL version costing £35,820.

Deliveries of the new Match and R-line Tech models are expected to start later this month.
