Pub serves up EU deal on a plate

- By CONOR GOGARTY

ACOTSWOLD pub has launched a tongue-in-cheek range of ‘Brexit burgers.’

The Halfway House, in Kineton, is offering a selection of burgers themed around the UK’S difficulties in leaving the European Union (EU).

Options include the Crawling Corbyn, Traumatised Theresa and the Barking Boris.

Owner Tania Marley does not expect anyone to order the Blah Blah Barnier a 2oz beef burger which costs a princely £94.

The dish was inspired by the “take it or leave it” approach of the EU’S chief negotiator Michel Barnier, says Ms Marley.

All burgers are served in a freshly baked Pan Rustic bun, with triple cooked chips and salad.

Ms Marley said: “It took about six weeks to put together.

“I felt the humour needed to be brought into the situation because everything is so doom and gloom.

“We have had some absolute belly laughs when people come in.

“They start reading the menu and they are not expecting it. They just start cracking up.”

“The Traumatised Theresa name was for the black pudding and blue cheese - Theresa May has been beaten black and blue through the whole process.”

And something about the plump chicken breast of the Barking Boris conjures an image of Brexiteer Boris Johnson, the restaurateur added.

She said: “The Beef it up Britain is 100 per cent British, with the meat between two Yorkshire puddings. That’s a more positive, ‘let’s do this’ one.”

The vegetable-heavy Flaky Farage was inspired by the similarity of Nigel Farage’s name to the word “forage”.

“We felt something cheesy went with him quite well too,” Ms Marley added.

The Halfway House owner stressed that the food is of the highest quality despite the humour.

She said: “Everything we buy is local. We don’t buy cheap food.

“Although we have put some laughter in this, every bit of beef is 100 per cent chuck steak.”

Asked if anyone has ordered the Blah Blah Barnier yet, Ms Marley replied: “No one yet.

“I think I would panic if they did because I don’t know where we would get the ingredients from - all of our food is British.”
