Homer, James on the radar

-

GLOUCESTER are looking to the Championship for a new scrum-half.

With Ben Vellacott expected to leave for Wasps, it is thought the Cherry and Whites have shown an interest in Doncaster’s Tom James and Jersey’s Will Homer to fill the third scrum-half berth along with Willi Heinz and Callum Braley next season.

According to Rugby Inside Line, a Twitter account that publishes rugby rumours, James will be the man to move to Kingsholm as they claim Gloucester have beaten Wasps and Newcastle to his signature.

James joined Doncaster from Championship rivals Bedford in the summer of 2017 and has become their first choice number nine following the departure of Michael Heaney to Worcester Warriors, keeping out Fiji international Henry Seliloli.

The 25-year-old also represented England Students in 2016 after a fine season that saw him score 10 tries in National One as captain of Loughborough Students.

Homer is understood to be a target for Gloucester though as reported by The Rugby Paper, who claim that Wasps are in the running as well.

The pacy 23-year-old is another to have impressed in the second tier of English rugby after joining Jersey from Bath last summer.

Homer has represented England at Under-16, Under-18 and Under-20 level and made 16 first team appearances for Bath, where his brother Tom still plays.
