In the swing of things Run down play area could get £60k revamp
ACHILDREN’S play area in could be set for a £60,000 upgrade as part of a playground improvement programme.
The ABC play area in Fairview could have a new climbing tower, themed bus and a new roundabout under the proposals.
In addition, the area is set for a facelift and will be completely resurfaced.
The money comes from Cheltenham Borough Council’s five-year capital playground improvement programme, ‘which allocates funding to make sure that play areas are safe and fun spaces, in all areas of the borough.’
The proposals could see the ‘tired and unused units’ removed, including the climbing frame, slide and bouncing seat.
The rocking chair and swings will be refurbished. The proposals reveal ‘the platform heights do not exceed the current platform heights, making it easy for guardians to follow their children round the large units.’
Green space development officer, Malcolm Walls, said: “This is a much needed makeover for a play area that has become rather run down.
“The new equipment is about much more than physical activity, it will also offer social interaction, imaginative play, educational play and excitement for children and their families.”
Residents have been welcomed to share their thoughts on the proposals before February 26.
The refurbishment proposals will be shared in the surrounding neighbourhood, including schools and nurseries, and the posters will be on display at the park.
