Ladies day as fi­nal strides pro­duce some ex­cel­lent fin­ishes

» THE Ladies pro­duced par­tic­u­larly strong per­for­mances for CLC Striders in the fi­nal round of the Glouces­ter­shire Cross Coun­try League at Pittville Park.

The ladies vets team took top spot as they clinched sec­ond across the four races.

In­di­vid­ual hon­ours went He­len Knight, with a bronze in her LV35 cat­e­gory and to Amelia Mullins and Amanda Steer for sil­ver and bonze re­spec­tively in LV45.

The ladies were led home by Rachael Cary in 14th place, fol­lowed home by the con­sis­tently strong He­len Knight in 16th.

Rachel Vines capped an in­cred­i­ble come­back sea­son with 25th while Amanda Steer just pipped Amelia Mullins to first in the LV45 cat­e­gory on the day as they took 31st and 32nd. Char­lie Haward was 95th.

In the day’s team stand­ings, the se­nior ladies fin­ished third with the vets first in the Mas­ters.

In the men’s race, CLC Striders were led home by the fast-emerg­ing Tom Ka­bala in 30th place in a field packed with the strong­est lo­cal ath­letes.

Louis Fievet bagged a top-50 fin­ish in 44th place in his first sea­son with the club, the sea­soned Jon Howes not far be­hind in 52nd.

Thomas Fletcher was 60th, Paul Lock­yer 89th, Eoin Mc­quone was 101st (10th in his MV45 cat­e­gory) and Gareth Har­ries, re­turn­ing to com­pe­ti­tion af­ter a long lay-off just be­hind him in 102nd place.

MV55 com­peti­tor Jon Will­son fin­ished next in 105th po­si­tion over­all and fifth in his age cat­e­gory with Clark Law­son 107th.

Rich Shard­low was 128th, Hedley Phillips 136th, su­per-vet Ed Col­lier 144th (fifth in his MV60 cat­e­gory), Tim Brock 150th, Gary Smith 151st, An­drew Gage 156th and Mike Speke in 176th.

In the team stand­ings, Striders men fin­ished sev­enth th in the se­nior cat­e­gory and ninth in the vets.
