Ladies day as final strides produce some excellent finishes
» THE Ladies produced particularly strong performances for CLC Striders in the final round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League at Pittville Park.
The ladies vets team took top spot as they clinched second across the four races.
Individual honours went Helen Knight, with a bronze in her LV35 category and to Amelia Mullins and Amanda Steer for silver and bonze respectively in LV45.
The ladies were led home by Rachael Cary in 14th place, followed home by the consistently strong Helen Knight in 16th.
Rachel Vines capped an incredible comeback season with 25th while Amanda Steer just pipped Amelia Mullins to first in the LV45 category on the day as they took 31st and 32nd. Charlie Haward was 95th.
In the day’s team standings, the senior ladies finished third with the vets first in the Masters.
In the men’s race, CLC Striders were led home by the fast-emerging Tom Kabala in 30th place in a field packed with the strongest local athletes.
Louis Fievet bagged a top-50 finish in 44th place in his first season with the club, the seasoned Jon Howes not far behind in 52nd.
Thomas Fletcher was 60th, Paul Lockyer 89th, Eoin Mcquone was 101st (10th in his MV45 category) and Gareth Harries, returning to competition after a long lay-off just behind him in 102nd place.
MV55 competitor Jon Willson finished next in 105th position overall and fifth in his age category with Clark Lawson 107th.
Rich Shardlow was 128th, Hedley Phillips 136th, super-vet Ed Collier 144th (fifth in his MV60 category), Tim Brock 150th, Gary Smith 151st, Andrew Gage 156th and Mike Speke in 176th.
In the team standings, Striders men finished seventh th in the senior category and ninth in the vets.
