Clubs come together to safeguard future
» WOODMANCOTE and St Stephens cricket clubs have come together to form Woodmancote Saints CC.
St Stephens, who played at Swindon Village playing field, withdrew from the County League last summer due to the growing challenge of fielding a team every Saturday.
Woodmancote welcomed several St Stephens players into their ranks and the two club committees have been talking about merging since the autumn.
Club spokesman and junior cricket manager Paul Goring said: “We all see this as a fantastic opportunity to create a stronger club with more playing resources going forward.
“We will continue to run three senior league teams and offer cricket to local schools through Chance to Shine, five to right year olds through All Stars and junior cricket from aged 10-15 as well as our women’s team.
“We hope both the Woodmancote and Swindon Village communities will get behind us.”
