Protheroe adds threat to battle for survival

Gloucestershire Echo - - DECKS WEEK -

IT must have been a first with Gloucester and Hartpury live on TV at the same time.

It was a massive game for Hartpury who were playing Richmond, one place above them in the table.

The Hartpury victory draws them level on points and gives them hope to move off the bottom of the table.

Mat Protheroe, the diminutive full-back, was a constant thorn in Richmond’s side, coming into the line at pace linking well with his wingers, creating opportunities time and again.

The other standout back was Harry Cochrane who had a busy game at scrum half.

Our Cirencester backs coach, he scored a crucial try which was finished off with a flamboyant dive.

He was not finished there, with a post-match interview that will go down on his career highlights reel.

The victory really does give Hartpury hope of beating the drop.

Keeping the loan players fit and able to play the majority of the games in the defining weeks of the season will be key.
