Gloucestershire Echo - - HOME ADVICE -

1. Tell your insurer about a new high value item. Some policies require this above £250. 2. Check insurance levels – valuable jewellery should also be covered for theft and loss outside the home. 3. Be careful – flashing the bling can attract thieves. Never leave items where they can be seen from outside.

4. You want to tell your friends you’ve got engaged. But try to keep social media posts low key – house breakers can often find information here. And you never know who’s looking.

5. The first place burglars look is the bedroom. They assume many leave valuables in bedside cabinets. Safes should be professionally installed – otherwise they could be easy for thieves to remove and open later.

6. Keep receipts and take photographs – but don’t share them. No insurance can replace sentimental value but successful claims can help heal the hurt.
