Cleeve draw a blank against battling Reds
BISHOP’S Cleeve came unstuck against fellow Gloucestershire side Fairford Town for the second time this season, being held to a 0-0 draw at Cinder Lane.
Having lost 3-0 at home to Fairford earlier in the season Cleeve had an early chance when Brad Martin’s knock down to Joe Bates saw Bates one on one with the keeper however his lob was overhit.
Harrison Iddles and Martin then saw shots dragged wide and the hosts nearly went in at half time with the lead when Charlie Bailey fired off a tricky shot which Lewis Clayton was able to deal with.
The second half was a more even affair however Cleeve were still unable to effectively test an extremely solid and well organised defence.
Martin saw a header go just wide and Jordan Staten’s header late on unfortunately looped over the bar.
Cleeve’s best chance of the second half came three minutes from time when Iddles’ cross found the onrushing Jack Watts at the back post however the tight angle from close range meant that Watts was only able to put the ball the wrong side of the post.
Fairford nearly snatched all three points at the end when a 25 yard shot was swerving up into the top corner however Clayton was up to the task of saving it.
Cleeve face another tough match away at Gloucestershire rivals Tuffley Rovers next Saturday.
In Division One West, Cirencester Town Development were 5-1 victors against New College Swindon.
Their goalscorers were Sam Farr, Connor Hibbs, Dan Roberts and two from Alfie Cook.
