Shoot-out drama brings glory for Rangers, Panthers
TWO of the first five Cheltenham Youth League finals at Whaddon Road on Sunday were decided by penalty shootouts.
The first match saw Southside Star Lions Under-nines beaten 2-1 by FC Lakeside Whites, then in the Under-10s final Bishop’s Cleeve Rovers went 3-0 up before Cotswold Rangers scored three goals in the last 10 mins to take the game to penalties which Cotswold won.
The Under-15 final was an evenly contested game between. Tewkesbury Town Panthers, champions of Division Two, and Cinderford Town, who won the League Cup last season.
After a 2-2 draw, this game also went to penalties with the Tewkesbury keeper Aaron Lund scoring his penalty and then saving the last one to give his team the cup
The Under-16 final was between the League winners of Division Two and third-placed Gala Wilton from Division One and Ebley Youth upset the form book by winning 2-1 in a game that had two penalties.
The last final was the Under17 match which saw Leckhampton Rovers take a two-goal lead only for Gotherington to fight back for a 3-2 win, meaning they do the league and league cup double.
