Town’s game at Seasons as travellers invade pitch
TEWKESBURY Town’s home match against Bishop’s Cleeve A will be played at Cheltenham Town’s Seasons training ground on Saturday (2.30pm).
The Robins offered to host the Cheltenham League Division One clash after seeing the fixture postponed over the weekend due to travellers occupying Tewkesbury’s home pitch.
There are an estimated 15 to 20 caravans on the Northway playing fields, despite an eviction notice seeking their removal.
It will be both clubs’ final league match of the 2018/19 campaign.
Tewkesbury secretary Marc Lane said: “After having travellers on our pitches since last Tuesday night, we have had to move two matches, and postpone one.
“We have the Senior Charity Cup final coming up, and the match must be played this weekend.
“We still don’t know when the travellers will leave, they have ignored the eviction notice from the court so it’s a waiting game.
“It’s great to see our local Football League club helping out”
John Hunt, fixtures secretary for the Cheltenham League, said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone at Cheltenham Town, especially groundsman Matt Utteridge for agreeing to help us out.”
Tewkesbury will play at the Jonny-rocks Stadium against Division One champions Andoversford in the Senior Charity Cup final next Thursday (May 9).
