Pauling retires first Cheltenham hero
» BEN Pauling has retired his first Cheltenham winner A Hare Breath.
He called it a day with his 2015 November Meeting hero, on the final day of the season at Sandown.
The 11-year-old was lightly raced for his age and defied a 695-day absence to triumph at the Home of Jump Racing.
He also won a Listed hurdle at Sandown in 2017 and competed at two Cheltenham Festivals.
Pauling said: “A Hare Breath bows out with all the class he’s shown throughout his career.
“His first outing at the Cheltenham November Meeting would provide us with our first winner at the home of jumps and a day that will last long in the memory as he stormed up the hill to win emphatically.
A Hare Breath will spend his retirement at his owner’s stud in Sussex, where Cheltenham Festival winner The Package was bred.
