Cirencester prospect Windsor on the radar of top-level clubs

-

» OWEN Windsor’s performances for Cirencester Town this season have alerted the attention of top level clubs including Chelsea.

Formerly on the books of Swindon Town and Southampton, teenage winger or forward Windsor is a scholar at Hartpury and helped the college win the Under-18s national championship this season.

Windsor has scored six goals in seven Southern League Division One South starts for Charlie Griffin’s Cirencester, who were beaten 2-1 at home by Cinderford Town in the play-off semi-finals on Wednesday night.

The left footer, who turns 18 in September, has previously been selected for the England schoolboys squad.

Windsor is currently studying for a Level 3 extended diploma in sport (performance and excellence) at Hartpury.

Hartpury’s football academy manager Paul Tassell believes Windsor has a big future ahead of him.

“Owen has a lot of potential and if he works hard, he has great ability to create and score goals and was an important part of our U18s National Cup winning team,” Tassell said.

“He came to us turning down scholarships at other professional clubs due to the full-time football here combined with outstanding education.

“We hope he is another one we can add to the 30+ who have signed professionally from our programmes.”

Chelsea’s chief regional scout for the South West is ex-gloucester City striker Adie Mings, whose son Tyrone is currently on loan at Aston Villa from Bournemouth.
