O’sullivan stars at Thruxton
» CHELTENHAM racing driver Zak O’sullivan starred in the Michelin Ginetta Junior Championship at Thruxton last weekend, with two rookie wins and two second-place finishes.
» HE moves into second place in the championship standings, whilst remaining top of the rookie standings.
In qualifying, the 14-year-old finished third in free practice with a lap time of 1:32.130 then shaved three tenths off his earlier lap time to put himself second fastest with 1:31.864 to ensure he would start from the front row in both races.
Race one got off to a positive start but O’sullivan encountered trouble and was seventh on lap four.
He pushed hard and claimed back his second position from Ethan Hawkey.
Hawkey piled on the pressure but O’sullivan held on to second by 0.811 seconds to take the rookie honours.
Race two brought more joy for O’sullivan, as he finished in another second position.
He put plenty of pressure on leader James Hedley before settling for second place.
O’sullivan also had the fastest lap of the race, to pick up an extra championship point and was able to stand on the top step of the rookie rostrum.
The next round is at Croft in North Yorkshire on June 15/16.
