O’sullivan stars at Thrux­ton

» CHEL­TENHAM rac­ing driver Zak O’sullivan starred in the Miche­lin Ginetta Ju­nior Cham­pi­onship at Thrux­ton last week­end, with two rookie wins and two sec­ond-place fin­ishes.

» HE moves into sec­ond place in the cham­pi­onship stand­ings, whilst re­main­ing top of the rookie stand­ings.

In qual­i­fy­ing, the 14-year-old fin­ished third in free prac­tice with a lap time of 1:32.130 then shaved three tenths off his ear­lier lap time to put him­self sec­ond fastest with 1:31.864 to en­sure he would start from the front row in both races.

Race one got off to a pos­i­tive start but O’sullivan en­coun­tered trou­ble and was sev­enth on lap four.

He pushed hard and claimed back his sec­ond po­si­tion from Ethan Hawkey.

Hawkey piled on the pres­sure but O’sullivan held on to sec­ond by 0.811 sec­onds to take the rookie hon­ours.

Race two brought more joy for O’sullivan, as he fin­ished in an­other sec­ond po­si­tion.

He put plenty of pres­sure on leader James Hed­ley be­fore set­tling for sec­ond place.

O’sullivan also had the fastest lap of the race, to pick up an ex­tra cham­pi­onship point and was able to stand on the top step of the rookie ros­trum.

The next round is at Croft in North York­shire on June 15/16.
