Brown­ing beats the field

MATT Brown­ing was the win­ner of the Mira Show­ers Triathlon, based at the Sand­ford Parks Lido last Sun­day.

Around 250 ath­letes took part in the event, which com­prised a 400m (eight-length) swim in the Lido, 1 17.5k cy­cle leg and a 2.8k run.

Brown­ing cov­ered the dis­tance in 48 min­utes 29 sec­onds, 16 sec­onds clear of sec­ond placed Martin Fos­ter, who won the male 50+ cat­e­gory. Nic Bur­ridge was third, and first male 40+ in 49.17.

Elis­a­beth Af­seth was the first fe­male home in 59.31 with Sarah Keigh­ley (59.48) sec­ond and Jo­hanna Bogle (1:00.17) in third.

The trio were also the top three in the fe­male 40+ cat­e­gory, with Samantha Pick­er­ing the first fe­male 50+ fin­isher in 1:02.34 ahead of Verna Burgess and Anne Wil­liams.

In the fe­male 60+ Julie Brown (1:19.09) was first, ahead of Co­let­ter Shrub­sole and Lynn Hud­son.

The male open cat­e­gory was won by Brown­ing, with Peter Kellie sec­ond (fourth over­all) and James Tay­lor third (sixth over­all).

Luke Bolton was sec­ond male 40+ fin­isher be­hind Bur­ridge with adam Butcher third, and in the 50+ event Fos­ter was fol­lowed by Jezz Rutt and Gwyn Wil­liams.

The fe­male open cat­e­gory was won by Bev­er­ley May (1:00.35), the fourth fe­male fin­isher, ahead of Al­layne Green and Beth Cantrell.
