Browning beats the field
MATT Browning was the winner of the Mira Showers Triathlon, based at the Sandford Parks Lido last Sunday.
Around 250 athletes took part in the event, which comprised a 400m (eight-length) swim in the Lido, 1 17.5k cycle leg and a 2.8k run.
Browning covered the distance in 48 minutes 29 seconds, 16 seconds clear of second placed Martin Foster, who won the male 50+ category. Nic Burridge was third, and first male 40+ in 49.17.
Elisabeth Afseth was the first female home in 59.31 with Sarah Keighley (59.48) second and Johanna Bogle (1:00.17) in third.
The trio were also the top three in the female 40+ category, with Samantha Pickering the first female 50+ finisher in 1:02.34 ahead of Verna Burgess and Anne Williams.
In the female 60+ Julie Brown (1:19.09) was first, ahead of Coletter Shrubsole and Lynn Hudson.
The male open category was won by Browning, with Peter Kellie second (fourth overall) and James Taylor third (sixth overall).
Luke Bolton was second male 40+ finisher behind Burridge with adam Butcher third, and in the 50+ event Foster was followed by Jezz Rutt and Gwyn Williams.
The female open category was won by Beverley May (1:00.35), the fourth female finisher, ahead of Allayne Green and Beth Cantrell.
