Porter and Hone have Georgia on their mind after Counties call-up
CINDERFORD pair George Porter and Harry Hone have been named in the England Counties squad for next week’s tour of Georgia.
The 24-man squad will play two games in the former Soviet republic, taking on a Georgia XV in Kutaisi in Saturday, and then again on July 7 in the capital Tbilisi.
Foresters skipper Porter has been called up for the first time, while Hone, an ever-present for Cinderford in National League One who also scored 10 tries during this campaign is called up for the tour again. Meanwhile, Old Patesians’ Tom Knight is in the 23-man England Counties Under-20 squad to play Romania for a two match tour. Scrum-half Knight, left, son of former Cheltenham Town midfielder Keith Knight, joined Pats last season from Chosen Hill and was named Young Player of the Year at Everest Road.
The first fixture will be played on Friday, May 31 followed by the second test on Tuesday, June 4.
Bucharest’s Olimpia Stadium will host the games and England had a five days training camp in the build up to the tour. The 23 players have been selected from across the country, all of whom play in the Jason Leonard Under-20 County Championship.
A divisional camp at Derby RFC in early May saw players selected into four regional divisions and the England management were then able to select a squad of 23.
