Remembering the fallen – events for 75th anniversary of D-day

-

COMMEMORATIONS are taking place to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-day landings.

There will be a short ceremony in Gloucester city centre and a short parade and service in Cheltenham today.

In Cheltenham, the short parade and service of commemoration will take place at the town’s war memorial.

The event will take place at 12.30pm in the Promenade and the town’s mayor Councillor Roger Whyborn will lay a special poppy wreath.

The ceremony in Gloucester, which will be hosted by the Royal British Legion Gloucester City branch, will take place from 6.50-7.10pm at the War Memorial in Trier Way.

The charity organisation chartered a ship to depart from Portsmouth, taking veterans back to the French beaches they landed on 75 years ago.

At Gloucester Cathedral at 5.30pm there will be a choral evensong including a commemoration.

This weekend both Olly Murs and Nile Rodgers will perform at Kingsholm Stadium.

But many are yet to receive their tickets as they’re delayed in the post.

Gloucester Rugby shared a post on their website saying: “We are aware that a number of tickets have been delayed in the post for our summer concerts at Kingsholm Stadium - Olly Murs (Friday, June 7) and Nile Rodgers & Chic (Sunday, June 9).”

As a result the venue is encouraging those who have yet to receive their tickets to contact the ticket office.

Your original tickets will then be cancelled and replacements printed and left in the ticket office to be collected in person. The ticket office hours have also been extended in order to accommodate those who need to collect their tickets.
