Frustrations shared over parking issues
✒ AS a Cheltenham Borough Councillor also sitting on our parish council highways group, I share the frustration of r Douglas Vick (Letters, May 30) concerning parking on the corners of road junctions adversely affecting visibility, road safety and access.
As well as several others in Leckhampton, the junction he mentions (Old Station Rd with Leckhampton Road) was proposed to the Gloucestershire County Council Highways Officer as a candidate for parking restrictions using yellow lines in November 2018.
Unfortunately officers did not agree that this was a high priority and in the absence of GCC support and funding it would be difficult for the Parish Council to implement.
As a result Leckhampton with Warden Hill Parish Council is compiling a ‘bucket list’ of possible sites for limited yellow line parking restrictions which, if supported by residents and thought justified by officers, could be implemented more economically as a package deal in the future if and when funds are identified.
In the meantime communications such as Mr Vick’s are helpful to add weight to requests for action at specific sites that can be considered by councils.
