County women suffer back-to-back defeats

GLOUCESTERSHIRE Women suffered backto-back defeats over the Bank Holiday weekend with losses to Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

In a rain-hit encounter with Bucks, the visitors made 168-4 from an innings that was reduced to 30 overs. Helen Cutler was the most economical of the bowlers, going for 18 from her six overs.

Chasing a target that was recalculated to 171 through the use of the Duckworth-lewis-stern system, Glos were reduced to 34-6.

Chloe Tingle (18) and Sidra Khan (29) fought hard in a seventh wicket partnership of 50 but it proved too little too late as the home side finished on 101-9.

Against Oxfordshire, Glos again struggled with the bat as the top order failed to fire.

Opener Chloe Skelton made 18 but the rest of the top six failed to reach double figures.

Once again Khan sought to bail her side out, making 34 from 79 balls at number seven.

Cerys King also contributed an important 25 as the home side battled to 155 all out in the 48th over.

Mollie Robbins got Glos off to a flyer with three early wickets but Abigail Flory (63 from 70 balls) held the innings together and put her side back in control.

She fell before the end – caught byabi Whybrow off Khan and there were two wickets for King (2-33) but it wasn’t enough to derail the Oxfordshire chase.

The visitors reached their target with four wickets and more than 20 overs to spare.

The defeats mean Glos finish fourth (of six) in their 50 over group. They move into T20 action with a double header v Somerset and Wiltshire at King’s School Gloucester on Sunday June 9.
