Oaksey take over at top with Barnsley win

-

OAKSEY have taken over at the top of the Cain & Fuller CDCA Division One table after they overcame previous leaders Barnsley Beeches.

Barnsley got off to a decent start but the wicket of Andrew Field (28) led to a bit of a collapse and only Bobby Denney (33) allowed the score to progress to 148.

Adrian Prim (4-45), Andy Steward (3-25) and Ken Lane (2-31) were the pick of the bowlers and Oaksey initially found the going tough against some good bowling by Tom Dykes (3-37).

Tom Cook (27) helped to build a platform and the job was completed by Hector Whitrow (41) as Oaksey ran out winners with five overs to spare.

Minety & Northleach got back to winning ways with a comprehensive win over Avening & Cherington.

A first wicket partnership of 167 between Giles Wellman (81) and Tom Pearson (70) put the hosts in the driving seat then some hard hitting from Darren Hall (30*) pushed the total along to an impressive 250-4.

Avening never got into the chase as regular wickets fell to good bowling from Darren Hall (2-15) and Dave Gould (2-38).

A brief recovery was led by P Carter (39*) however skipper Tony Gardner (5-16) ripped through the batsmen at the other end to leave the visitors well short on 145 all out.

At Longborough & Sezincote visitors Bibury got off to a great start with an opening stand of 141 between Charlie Robinson (70) and Ed Robinson (65).

Good bowling by Joe Newbould (2-20) and Luke Mcdonah (2-39) helped stem the flow but a final Bibury score of 192-5 was competitive.

The hosts did not hang about. Hard hitting knocks by Josh Newbould (53), Simon Coombes (41) and Luke Mcdonah (39) put Longborough completely in the driving seat and the target was reached with over 10 overs to spare.

Fairford II continued their solid start with a win over Oakridge. Oakridge posted an excellent 233-3 with Steve Robbins (97) just missing his hundred and some fine support from Mark Robbins (47) and Ed Bryant (37).

Nine-man Oakridge found it difficult to contain Fairford on a good pitch and small ground. Fairford timed the run-chase perfectly with Louis Cusack (78) and Daniel Godwin (56) especially impressive and despite some late wickets from Mackenzie Smith (2-36) Fairford reached the target in the 37th over.

In the local derby at Ashton Keynes the hosts and visitors South Cerney continued their erratic starts to the season with the hosts taking the spoils in a one-sided game.

Ashton were in trouble as Chris Wearing (3-23) took out the top order. Then a fine innings from Will Shelley (88) in partnership first with A Lovatt (34) and then Tom Waller (34*) saw them through to a competitive 191-6.

In reply South Cerney did not find the conditions to their liking. Matt Hicks (23) top-scored but great spells from Liam Hindmarch (4-13) and A Lovatt (3-16) saw the visitors bowled out for 83.
