Toyota expands the Yaris range

- By CHRIS RUSSON

TWO newcomers join the current Yaris line-up and slot in towards the top of the range. The Yaris Y20 comes with a bi-tone paint finish and has rear privacy glass, 16in alloys and dark grey fog light surrounds, side sills and front grille, plus special badging.

The Y20 is being introduced with a limited edition run of 100 cars, which are decked out in the original gold metallic colour Toyota used to launch the Yaris.

This is combined with a contemporary dark grey finish for the roof, pillars and door mirror housings.

The second model is a GR Sport, which is hybrid only and is inspired by Toyota’s Yaris GRMN performance model, having an uprated suspension for sportier handling.

It uses Sachs Performance shock absorbers similar to those fitted to the GRMN cars and a solid - rather than hollow - anti-roll bar to gain extra rigidity. The GR Sport is also lower to the ground with the suspension lowered by 15mm and its exterior styling follows that of the Yaris GRMN, including a black bi-tone roof with rear spoiler.

There are piano black door mouldings, a black honeycomb grille, black door mirror housings and black front fog light surrounds as well as 17in alloys fitted with the same Bridgestone Potenza RE50 205/45R17 tyres as the GRMN model. In the cabin, the sporting character is continued with Gr-branded sports seats, a small-diameter three-spoke steering wheel similar to that of the Toyota GT86 coupe and there is a black headlining.

Optional red decals can be added to the front lip and the top line of the lower rear bumper for more appeal.

For 2019, the Yaris Icon Tech model has a revised equipment specification that includes rear parking sensors in place of the previous front sensor system.

Toyota Touch 2 with Go, including navigation, remains a key feature of the Icon Tech.

This model is available with all powertrain options: 1.0 and 1.5-litre petrol manual, 1.5-litre petrol CVT automatic and 1.5-litre self-charging hybrid.

With the newcomers, the Yaris line now extends to 15 models.
