Decision time Scheme for 100 homes looks set for approval
NEARLY 100 homes could be built near Tewkesbury. Developer Rhinoland Limited wants to put up 90 homes, a 66-bed care home and a community centre on Fitzhamon Park, Ashchurch.
The land forms part of a disused rifle range, close to the Bristol to Birmingham railway line, and is a stone’s throw from another care home, Ashchurch View.
Councillors on Tewkesbury Borough Council’s planning committee are being recommended by officers to approve the development at a meeting next week.
It is not yet clear how many bedrooms each of the 90 homes will have, but 36 of the properties will be ‘affordable.’
The land is sandwiched between two sites that already have approval for new homes, including 150 in the Linden Homes Scheme and 45 properties on the second site.
This means that if the 90 homes are
approved, this part of Ashchurch will see more than 250 homes built.
Ashchurch Parish Council is concerned the development could bring more traffic to the A46.
The parish clerk also said access to shops was “not within easy walking distance”.
The closest supermarket is a 20-minute walk away from the site.
The clerk said: “Access to shops is not within easy walking distance as described.
“The shops at Northway are the closest and are just over 1km as the crow flies from the site on a pathway across fields that are unlikely to be used.
“There are no retail outlets planned within the development. This can only encourage the use of the car and exacerbate the congestion on the A46.”
A design and access statement said: “The proposal would provide up to 90 new dwellings, including 36 affordable homes as well as a care home and a community building.
“When delivered, it will assist Tewkesbury in maintaining their fiveyear housing land supply. The development would therefore have significant social benefits.”
Councillors will determine the application on July 16, from 10am.
