Sarson features in Town loss
» STROUD based youngster Rhys Sarson appeared for Cirencester Town in their 4-3 pre-season friendly defeat against Swindon Supermarine on Tuesday night.
The forward was released by Mansfield Town at the end of last season after completing a two year scholarship.
Sarson was at Forest Green Rovers from Under-eights to Under-12s and joined Cirencester, developing under coach Arthur Jupp and enjoying a prolific spell at Under-13 and Under-14 levels.
Sarson returned to Forest Green on trial and rejoined the Nailsworth club.
He was top scorer in his division, attracting interest from Birmingham City and Swindon Town, who both offered him trials.
He opted to join Birmingham and impressed for the Blues’ Under-16s, but injuries hampered his chances of earning scholarship forms at St Andrew’s.
Supermarine took the lead at the Corinium Stadium through ex-cheltenham Town forward Harry Williams, but an own goal levelled the scores.
Returning winger Tom Ouldridge put Charlie Griffin’s side ahead but Brad Hooper netted from the penalty spot to make it 2-2.
Sarson went on in the 61st minute, with Dave Bampton and Joe Sheppard putting Supermarine 4-2 up before Jack Freeman pulled one back for the hosts.
» FAIRFORD Town have signed former Cirencester Town defender Ellis Dunton for the 2019/20 Hellenic Premier season.
Dunton is the second high profile signing Fairford have completed this summer, after midfielder Connor Thompson joined the club after leaving Swindon Supermarine.
» BISHOP’S Cleeve midfielder Mike Ford was in Slimbridge’s team that defeated Bristol Rovers Under-23s 3-1 in Friday’s pre-season friendly.
