Skoda Superb stays keen on price
PRICES and specifications for Skoda’s new-look flagship Superb have been announced and the revised range will start from £24,655 – an increase of around £1,000 over the current models.
Out goes the previous 1.4-litre petrol engine entry level model and instead the line up will start initially with a 1.6-litre diesel developing 120ps and with emissions of 110g/ km.
When the new Superb arrives in the autumn the cheapest petrol option will be a 2.0-litre TSI model priced from £30,575 and available only from mid-grade SE L trim.
A 1.5-litre, 150ps turbo petrol engine and a similar output 2.0-litre diesel are slated to join the range later in the year.
The new line up will top out from £40,695 for a 2.0-litre 272ps petrol 4x4 version in high grade Laurin &
Klement trim and like all initial models in the revised range will be fitted with a seven-speed DSG dual clutch transmission.
The facelifted Superb has a new grille, chrome trim across the tailgate with the Skoda name in capitals at the back and revised bumpers which increase the length of the car by up to 8mm.
Other dimensions and boot space remain the same which sees the car coming with super-sized luggage capacity ranging from 625 litres in the hatch to an impressive 660 in the estate.
Inside, there are upgrades to the trim and upholstery and all models are fitted with LED front and rear lights as standard, along with a touchscreen infotainment system with DAB, voice control and smartphone connectivity.
High intensity LED Matrix headlamps are also being made available on the latest model of the Superb and the car also features predictive cruise control and a revised blind spot detection system which now works at up to 70 metres range.
The UK range will consist of Skoda’s six familiar trim grades; S, SE, SE Technology, SE L, Sportline Plus and Laurin & Klement and all models will be available in both hatch and estate body styles. A plug-in hybrid Superb – Skoda’s first such powertrain - is due for release early next year and will feature a 1.4 TSI engine mated to an 85kw electric motor developing a total power output of 218ps. Skoda says that the Superb iv, as the PHEV is known, will have a zero emission range of up to 34 miles and its emissions will be rated below 40g/km.
