What a birthday in store Thomas, 5, celebrates his special day in B&Q
FOR most little boys celebrating their birthday, a bouncy castle or a trip to a soft play centre would be the dream.
Not for Thomas Norse-wright, however.
A few weeks ago Thomas, from Charlton Kings, ahis adorable plan to rebuild the fire-hit spire of Notre Dame cathedral made the headlines.
Despite only being four at the time, Thomas hit upon a plan not just to restore the famous Parisian landmark but to future-proof it to with a sophisticated sprinkler system.
His spare time is taken up largely by his love of all things mechanical - he readily dismantles and rebuilds the likes of microwaves and clocks - and to that end his favourite shop in the world isn’t your normal toy store, it’s DIY haven B&Q.
And the store’s bosses knew it, having read all about Thomas’s exploits, which is why he spent his fifth birthday over the weekend being the centre of attention at the Cheltenham branch.
Thomas was overjoyed at a tour of the store which is home to where things are bought to build, fix and heavy machinery is operated.
The Cheltenham branch certainly made it a birthday for him to remember.
Thomas’s mother Julia Norse-wright said: “He was so excited. It was the first thing that he said when he woke up that morning.
“They gave him a B&Q apron and hat when he arrived.
“He was in awe on the tour of the place. He just loves it there.
“They also set up a children’s table in the store and it had balloons and a cake and they also helped him to make a wooden tool box for his tools.

“He had the best day.” Thomas was so pleased with his hat and apron he went to sleep in it.
Mrs Norse-wright added: “He is so funny. He now thinks that he works for B&Q and has gone to school wearing the apron.
“They also gave him a voucher and he had already decided that he was going to spend it on a fan from the fan aisle which is his favourite.
“They were all so good to him. It was really lovely.”
B&Q is celebrating its 5oth anniversary and they said that it was lovely to celebrate Thomas’s special day with him.
Deputy Store Manager at B&Q Cheltenham Hayley Foy said:”this year it’s B&Q’S 50 anniversary,so it was lovely sharing our big birthday with Thomas’s fifth birthday.
“I think the colleagues enjoyed the visit as much as Thomas and his family did, and we’re so pleased he’s enjoyed all of his birthday surprises.
“Inspiring the next generation of home improvers is so important to B&Q, which is why we’re thrilled to have played a part in making Thomas’s birthday extra special.”
