BIRDLIP AND BRIMPSFIELD WI

Gloucestershire Echo - - WHERE LIVE - » Andrea Johnson

After several days of intermittent rain, we were relieved it stayed relatively dry for the WI annual garden meeting.

Members past and present enjoyed each other’s company and delicious food. A cake made by past member Joy Merriman and decorated by Margo Partridge member since 1961, was presented to Avice Townsend a member for over 66 years.

Avice told us how she had wanted to join the WI earlier but being in her mid-teens she was considered too young and had to wait!

During her time with us Avice has held every office within the local organisation.

Margo had put together a collage of WI activities and gave a short and interesting talk.

Thalia our current president thanked Avice for her efforts over the years and presented her with an orchid.

Collections of photographs and items brought back memories.

Other activities included a group walk around Chacely and visits to see films in Tewkesbury.

The next meeting on August 21 is a visit to Denman College, the WI’S centre for learning near Oxford
