- robin.jenkins@reachplc.com Robin JENKINS

TRIBUTES have been paid to a father-of-three and soldier who died in a road collision. Ross Standing died when the car he was driving was involved in a collision with an HGV on the A420, between Faringdon and Littleworth in Oxfordshire, on Sunday.

The British Army soldier was 27 and lived in Faringdon, but was from Cheltenham and was a former Bournside School pupil.

His family said in a statement released through Thames Valley Police: “Private Ross Thomas Standing was based at RAF Brize Norton whilst working for the Army.

“He was a loving father and leaves behind his wife and three children.

“We would like to request that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”

Ross was the co-founder of a familyrun fashion brand called International Ballers Apparel.

It said, on its Facebook page: “This is devastating to our family and business. It goes without saying that things will never be the same without him. Thank you, we all love you and we miss you terribly. Rest in peace.”

He also played football for RAF Brize Norton FC.

The club tweeted that it had lost “one of its own”.

An online appeal has been set up by Lucy Brown to raise money for Ross’s family.

It has raised nearly £2,500 towards a target of £20,000.

Lucy said: “On Sunday, July 14, 2019, a tragic and fatal accident took place on the A420.

“Ross Standing, an amazing father of three beautiful children and devoted husband to Yasmin, was taken from his family at the young age of 27 years old.

“I thought that this Go Fund Me page could go some way to showing our support.

“Whether to help with funeral costs, on-going financial help or just to show we care, I hope this will be one practical way we can pour all of our disbelief and sadness into something to support them through this terrible time.”

More thoughts for the family came in comments on our Facebook page to our first story about the tragedy.

Maggie Ireland said: “R.I.P Ross x

God Bless all your family at this very sad time xx Lots of love and hugs being sent to your mum at this extremely difficult time xxx.”

And Tina Hale said: “R.I.P Ross, thinking of your beautiful wife, children and the family at this awful time.

“Let’s hope and pray they find the strength to stay strong and remember the good time you all had together xx”

Thames Valley Police have asked the public to help their investigation into the collision. Investigating officer, PC Mark Dunne, said: “We are appealing for witnesses to this tragic incident.

“Our thoughts are with the family at this sad and difficult time. “I would also ask motorists who were in the area around the time of the collision to check their dash-cam footage in case it may have captured anything that could assist us with the investigation. “Anyone with information can call police on 101, quoting reference 43190214007, or make a report online. Alternatively you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.” To support the fundraising appeal visit gofundme.com/f/in-memory-ofross
