Join our volunteers to tidy up the county

-

» GLOUCESTERSHIRE is about to get a big summer clean-up and we need your help to make the grubby areas of our county glorious once again.

You’ve chosen the five grot spots for us to spruce up throughout August and now we would like to recruit a team of volunteers to lend a hand.

It is all part of our Keep Gloucestershire Glorious campaign to make a difference and clean up the county.

Do you fancy sparing a few hours to help brighten up the chosen spots with each site tackled on a Saturday throughout the month (August 3, 10, 17, 24, 31).

The sites you chose are:

» Great Western Road, Gloucester

» Kingsholm Road, Gloucester

» Park End Road, Gloucester

» High Street, Cirencester

» Swindon Road, Cheltenham

We want to hear from community groups, businesses and anyone with pride in their local community - we will provide the black bags and some refreshments on the day. Take a leaf out of Tanya Laird’s book. Known as the lonely litter picker thanks to the fact she regularly cleans up unloved patches of Gloucester, the beauty therapist from Longford is backing our campaign.

“I wish it could all be cleaned up,” she said. “I don’t see why there are so many people who haven’t got the same attitude to be as proud of where they live as I do.

“If you had people coming to visit your home you’d want it to be clean and tidy for when they arrive. It’s the same with Gloucester.

“We should all be proud of where we live.”
