Almosts travel far and wide to tackle 10k events

THERE were 10ks aplenty for Almost Athletes, who travelled far and wide to compete.

Ten members headed to the Forest of Dean for the Blaisdon 10k and Josh Hand was first Almost home in 38.37, followed by Peter Morris in 42.59 and Neil Tring in 45.48.

Sue Monaghan was first Almost lady in 58.35, followed by Lorraine Taylor in 60.13. Mike Kennedy finished in 46.29, Allan Green 46.50, Dave Elliott 50.58, David Davey 55.01 and David Lawrence 60.15.

Green had a busy week, following up with the Daventry Challenge Marathon in 5.27 and the Kingfisher Capers Marathon in 5.07.

Ceri Schofield tackled the tough hilly Cranham Beast in 1.06 while at the London 10k, Jayne Murphy finished in 1.05, followed by Hazel Everett in 1.07, Lynne Macedo in 1.08, and Graham Philpott in 1.11.

Dave Nelson was in Aberdeensh­ire, where he ran the undulating Alford 10k in 1.07.

Martyn Fisher took on the self-navigating Fairlands Valley Challenge Marathon, Stevenage. Despite a slight detour, he ran home in 5.18.

Lepha Mccartan completed the Castle Howard Sprint plus tri, finishing the 800m run, 48k bike and 8k run in 3.03 for sixth in her age category.

At Cheltenham parkrun, Matt Polson finished ninth in 19.10, Sharon Hadad was fifth lady in 23.08, and Jeanette Gullick sixth lady in 23.11.

Ben Stone was fifth at Gloucester North (19.56), Patricia Peever was second lady at Tetbury Goods Shed (23.27), and Hester Coggin was sevenh lady at Kingsway (23.57).

At Churchfiel­ds Farm, Martin Thomas finished fifth in 20.40, and Duncan Mounsor was seventh in 21.13.

Maddie Page ran at Tewkesbury, Andrea Hardy at Cirenceste­r, while Piotr Michalski and Mike Kennedy travelled to the Forest of Dean.

There was tourism for Ellie Laney bolton at Eden Project where she finished second lady in 20.36. Danny Carroll, Neil Tring, Lorraine Taylor and Rob Rennell made the trip to Bushy Park, the first and original parkrun.

Rachel O’bryan and Kate Houston ran at Pollok, Glasgow, Ed Brandley at Tamar Trails, Peter Morris at Killerton, and Claire Hawes at Exmouth. Rita Crane was at Dinton Pastures, Dave and Iris Mayo at Bicester, and Julie and Adrian Courtenay at Cassiobury. Further afield, Matthew Bevan took in Firenze parkrun, Florence.

Almost Athletes are hosting a couple of events over the next few weeks. The Bugatti 10k takes place on Wednesday August 7, from the Bugatti Owners’ Club, at Prescott, and the Meteor Mile takes place on Saturday August 31 along the runway (and against the setting sun!) at Gloucester­shire Airport at Staverton.
